The Afya Foundation interviewed on IF IT FITS IT SHIPS by Shelby Sells and Magnolia Polari with Danielle Butin
The Afya Foundation is providing personal protective equipment (PPE) for healthcare workers at over 100 healthcare facilities in the New York area. We source, coordinate, and distribute vital protective gear to hospitals, federally qualified health centers (FQHCs), community agencies, and emergency response teams.
The Afya Foundation has been on the frontlines, responding to crises for 11 years. We deliver necessary medical equipment and supplies to those experiencing natural disasters, conflict, and other disruptions to healthcare systems. The crisis is now in our backyard as COVID-19 threatens our community and those who protect us.
Since the start of the crisis, Afya has delivered over 100,000 masks and over 20,000 pounds of protective equipment and medical material to healthcare workers at various facilities, including over 15 FQHCs and 40 community agencies.
But the need for protective equipment is still urgent and great. During this emergency, the most vulnerable healthcare facilities are overrun and under-equipped. Many facilities such as nursing homes, homeless shelters, and community health centers still lack necessary protective equipment, leaving healthcare workers exposed and in danger. We are here to protect those who serve our community and work tirelessly through this pandemic.
